Ticket sales for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup 2017 were officially launched on 15 May 2017 at New Delhi’s Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium. The tickets will be exclusively available on FIFA.com from 16 May 2017 at exactly 19:11 hrs, paying tribute to the year in which Indian football made history. The ticketing for the first FIFA event in the country was jointly launched by Sports Minister Vijay Goel and Spanish World Cup winner Carles Puyol. Goel and Carles Puyol handed over the first ticket of the event to Gouri Bhaduri, the grand daughter-in-law of Shibdas Bhaduri, captain of Mohun Bagan AC.
It was for the first time that an Indian football team, Mohun Bagan AC, defeated an English team – East Yorkshire Regiment and won the IFA Shield in 1911. The ceremonial ticket will allow her family to attend any of the matches across the six host cities. The ticket pricing for the World Cup has been set at Rs 48 during the first phase of ticket sales. The physical copies of those will be rolled out after the day of the draw on 7 July 2017. The tickets will be available on a first come, first serve basis.
After launching the first ticket, Goel said that “the government has made sure that the tickets are priced very nominally. He said people can buy a World Cup ticket for less than fifty rupees, so there is no reason not to come and support this tournament in large numbers. He said, he does not see this tournament as the conclusion, rather it is the start of the next revolution in Indian football”. The Under-17 World Cup will be staged from 6 October to 28 October 2017 in six cities across India, namely Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi, Guwahati, Goa and Kochi. The 24-team tournament will feature an Indian team for the first time in a FIFA event.
