The ninth edition of Times Green Ganesha culminated with an awards ceremony in Mumbai on Tuesday. Minister of state (environment) Pravin Pote-Patil, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) member-secretary Anbalagan and MPCB PRO Sanjay Bhuskute presided over the awards and felicitated winners.
Speaking at the ceremony, Pote-Patil urged the people to celebrate the festival in an eco-friendly manner.
This year initiatives to connect with college and school students were undertaken to engage youngsters and make them brand ambassador
as part of Times Green Ganesha. A visit was organized to eco-friendly mandals by Anbalagan. A beach clean-up drive was organized at Girgaum Chowpatty and Juhu beach.
“The board has taken several measures over the last few years to curtail pollution
during Ganeshotsav and by teaming up with Times of India, we have been able to reiterate the benefits of celebrating festivals in an eco-friendly manner. Overwhelming response received for this initiative has prompted us to plan a much bigger initiative next year,” said Anbalagan.
